August 19th is celebrated every year as the 'World Photography Day'. India International Photographic Council commenced celebrating August19th as World Photography Day in 1991 and has encouraged othersocieties in other countries to do the same. Why August 19th? August 19th was chosen for the special day in the world of photography since the first announcement of a photograph was made on August 19th, 1839. This is well documented in photography history books, encyclopedias, as well as in various articles by famous photographers. The announcement was made in a brilliant speech before the members of the Academie des Sciencesand Academie des Beaux Arts by FrancoisArago.
