The flash plays a crucial role because it is the flash, not the camera, that freezes the subject’s motion. The camera and the flashes must be in sync. Most of the time, this reduces the shutter speed to around 1/200s, which is far too slow to freeze fast movement. Fortunately, we have flash duration. It’s the period of time when the flash emits light which is far faster than the camera’s sync speed. And if the flash duration is short enough, you’ll get the desired freezing effect.
