Nikon Z6 Specifications

Nikon has made the Z6’s body from magnesium alloy and has sealed the joints and controls to make it dust and weather-resistant. At the heart of the Z 6 has a new FX-format backside illumination CMOS sensor, featuring 24.5 effective megapixels and focal-plane phase-detection AF pixels. It takes full advantage of NIKKOR Z lenses utilizing the optical performance, bringing a new level of sharpness to the image. The Focal-plane phase-detection AF pixels are efficiently distributed throughout the sensor, allowing it to provide accurate AF over a wide area of the frame. Meanwhile, the sensor’s copper-wiring circuits enable rapid read-out of AF information and the data from its 24.5 effective megapixels, while realizing continuous shooting at up to 12 fps.

Optics & Focus

Nikon Z6 has a pretty good AF system with noticeable speed and accuracy. Since the sensor is now filled with single AF points. It enables to focus of edge-to-edge with accurate detail in both stills and videos. In addition to Eye-Detection AF for still shooting, users can expect improved AF performance in dark scenes, and can now take advantage of AE tracking alongside AF tracking in continuous high-speed (extended) mode. The Z6 can now focus down to an astounding -6 EV when the low-light AF function is activated for still shooting, it allows to capture subjects that are hard to discern with the naked eye.

Screen and Viewfinder

The Z 6’s electronic viewfinder boasts an organic EL panel, approx. 100% frame coverage and approx. 0.8× magnification, with an approx. 37.0° diagonal viewing angle. But it also draws on Nikon’s superior optical and image-processing technology to ensure a clear and comfortable view with reduced aberration and minimum eyestrain, even during extended shoots. Furthermore, the fluorine coat is applied to the eyepiece protection window, reducing flare while repelling dirt. When filming under harsh lighting, the electronic viewfinder helps to select the subjects across the entire frame. In addition to this, a high-resolution tilting monitor offers touch-panel functionality helping to focus even during movie recording by touch. The monitor’s tilting structure lets to make videos comfortably even when the camera is mounted on a video tripod or stabilizer.
