Kerala’s first printing press, revolutionized education, literature, and Christianity in Kottayam.
Established in 1821 by Christian missionaries near the Kottayam C.S.I. The CMS Press, located at the Cathedral Church, is a key landmark as Kerala’s first printing press. The beginning of this literary revolution, as a result, brought the title of “Land of Letters” to Kottayam and made it a prime player in the cultural and intellectual growth of Kerala. The spread of education, literature, and religious texts, consequently, made the press an important milestone in the state’s literary and cultural development.educational development.

Some of its most valuable contributions include its first Malayalam-English dictionary and early versions of the Bible translation, which, as a result, made religious and educational materials accessible to the masses.
