Crows are intelligent birds in the Corvus genus, known for their vocalizations and large family groups. They mate via “cloacal kissing” and lay 3-6 eggs, which incubate for 18 days. Both parents care for the young until they fledge at 5-6 weeks.
Crows belong to the genus Corvus, or more generally, the entire Corvus family of birds. Many species have the word “crow” in their common name. The related name “raven” refers to a broad grouping of bigger species of Corvus rather than being scientifically associated with any one feature. Crows congregate in big families. They can live up to 20 years. Although crows typically live for seven to eight years, more than half of them pass away in their first year due to competition from other flocks, malnutrition, and predators.

The crows will rub their cloacas together during mating. The male sperm will be able to enter the female’s cloaca as a result. After passing through the female’s reproductive system, the sperm will fertilize the ovum. The cloacal kiss is the term for this procedure. Three to six eggs are typically laid, and they must be incubated for eighteen days. During the four to five week nestling phase, both parents feed the young, and two weeks later, they are on their own, foraging for food.
