The Thakazhi Sree Dharmasastha Temple, a divine masterpiece dedicated to Lord Ayyappa, is located near Kuttanad and Ambalapuzha within Alappuzha district. The idol originally placed by Lord Parasurama on Othera Hill was washed away during a flood, and thereafter, a magician (Odiyan) discovered it and brought it to Vilwamangalam Swami, who recognized its shakti and gave it to sage Udhayarkkan for installation. It was built by King Chembakassery.
As one approaches the Lord Ayyappan Temple, the first sight to greet visitors is a serene pond mirroring the temple’s timeless elegance perfectly. In fact this silent reflection symbolises the harmony between the temple’s architecture and Kerala’s lush surroundings. Inside the temple complex, devotees meticulously arrange rows of lamps for the sacred fire, because the reflecting a custom characteristic of ancient temples in Kerala. In order to the bright lamps decorating the space speak of light dispelling darkness and filling the surrounding areas with positive and spiritual energy.
