Abstract photography contradicts our prevalent perception of photography as an objective depiction of reality by reasserting its constructed nature.
Nature is full of tiny fragments, which can be used in an abstract form. They are all around us. All we have to do is observe. In abstract photography, we leave some of the information behind and keep the parts we want to include in the photograph, creating a different meaning for the photo.

Beyond Reality
Abstract photography contradicts our prevalent perception of photography as an objective depiction of reality by reasserting its constructed nature. Looking at objects in a new light is what abstract photography entails. Moreover it is a genre of photography that tries to convey ideas and emotions through photos. without striving to produce a conventional or realistic image. According to Lucian, Freud, “The longer you look at an image, the more abstract it becomes, and ironically, more real.”. It highlights the nuances that are generally neglected and activates the viewer’s imagination by avoiding and going beyond the traditional depictions of a subject.
Visage : A face emerging from the trunk of a tree
In abstract photography, one can achieve abstraction by either increasing the distance from an object, as seen in aerial photography, or by decreasing the distance to an object, as in macro photography. Additionally, one can accomplish abstraction by carefully framing and isolating the part of interest. The textures in tree bark, are an example of this. The chapter “Fragments of Nature” is all about the tiny fragments of nature, from trees to bubbles, and viewing them from a different perspective. The viewers can depict their interpretations of the images.
