Jungle myna

The starling family includes the jungle myna (Acridotheres fuscus). It is missing in India’s dry regions but found sporadically throughout much of the Indian Subcontinent’s mainland. Its frontal crest makes it easily identifiable, a trait shared with the pale-bellied and Javan mynas, once considered subspecies.

Eye color varies by population, ranging from pale to yellow or blue, with a dark-based orange-yellow bill. Breeding occurs from February to May, or April to July in northern India, before the rains. Both sexes participate in the construction of nests, incubation, and feeding of the young.
