The rosy starling (Pastor roseus) belongs to the Sturnidae family and also goes by the name rose-colored pastor. Attracted to flowering trees, these sociable birds form large, noisy flocks that can trouble farmers but help by controlling pests like locusts and grasshoppers.

This species breeds in Central Asia and Southeast Europe’s steppes, semi-deserts, and deserts. Its range extends from northwest Mongolia to southern Russia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, and Armenia, passing through Dzungarei, Xinjiang, and Central Asia. The starling winters in India, summers in northwest Afghanistan, and migrates through the rest of Afghanistan.
