Photography is the art of painting with light. Light painting, also known as light sketching or light graffiti, is a photographic technique that involves altering an image with a moving beam of light, such as a flashlight, glow stick, light brush, or even a smartphone, while capturing a long-exposure photograph.
Rather than simply recording an image as is, light painters enhance it by spotlighting an object or adding streaks, colours, or flashes to it. Light painting can mimic classic painting techniques, such as superimposition and transparency, by moving, adding, or deleting lights or objects during or between exposures. Thereby “painting” them with light. After that, a picture or other permanent representation
of the resultant image is created. A light recorder produces images of only light or adds subject matter to a light painting or light drawing. Historically, they have merely been combined into a category called light painting. Light painting and light drawings, or subgroups of this form of art, can be distinguished.
Lighting determines not only brightness and darkness but also tone, mood, and atmosphere. Therefore, it is necessary to control and manipulate light correctly to get the best texture and vibrancy.
