I visited the Thattekad Bird Sanctuary and Palakkad Nemmara. Both places are well known for the diversity of birds. I got most of the photos from Thattekad Bird Sanctuary rather than Palakkad. When inside the sanctuary I found a lot of birds that attracted me more towards action or more colloquially flying shots. Most of the birds visited the banks to drink water and prey on small insects.
I knew it was the best opportunity to get some conventional yet tight shots. When the birds came into our frame, I started moving towards them to get the desired frame, but most of the birds started flying. So I quit taking photos in a rush.

The sense of interest slowly started growing on me while framing birds. When we consider the wild, we think only about animals.
There is a wide variety of bird species that we often tend to forget. Thattekad is a kind of place that leaves people with an impression of excitement. I took some of the inspiration from my favorite photographers but later the fact rushed into my mind that the hours they spend on a single pic and the research they have done to study the behavior of the birds was so much different from my idea of preparation. I just researched on framing and forget the part where I should have researched about the birds that are locally found in Thattekad.

The fact alone made my journey a mystery and the trip became a series of surprising events. I had a deep confusion at the end of the trip that it was a merit or demerit. If I have learned a thing about photography then definitely it is preparation. My idea of preparation ends in backpacking but the fact that back packing alone won’t fill your portfolio was evident from that trip.
The beginning of the Thattekad journey taught me so many life lessons that made the end of the Thattekad journey a pleasant and soul refreshing trip. It is indeed true that a journey is necessary for everyone to learn grow and implement.

If starring is an art then birds are the inventors of that art

There is nothing more scenic than two birds starring at each other. The fun part begins when a single bird peaks in to the infinity waiting for a bird to come their.

My journey towards Palakkad started with a plain idea of exploring the landscape. The idea seems pretty Amateurish but it was a daring decision for me and the adrenaline was rushing through my vein from the moment I started my Bike even it was noisy kick start. I was pretty sure that my trip won’t go into vein even if I didn’t get any bird photos because experiance was all that matters to me.
On the way to Palakad, a sense of anxiety started growing in my mind. Although I was unsure what that Anxiety was I was sure that the photography student inside me will start to scream about the deadlines I have to meet.

The traveler inside me slowly started to leave me as my mind started supporting the practical guy inside me. People call this a state dilemma but it was not a dilemma my mind became a practical guy at the moment I crossed Nenmara.
I started scheduling my entire trip in my hotel trip which in the past I considered as something unconventional. The trip was organised completly and made the entire plan for the next 2 days.
I refreshed and headed towards paddy fields which instantly filled me with regrets. Local birds was something that I never considered taking but since it was my only choice. I started taking them.

After I got a hold of it my love towards every bird started growing on me. And those birds finally made their way towards my portfolio. Initially, I was going to cancel the schedule of Nenmara and was ready to give Thattekad some more time but after the first session, I was confident that Nenmara had everything that a photographer seeks. After the confident session from Nenmara I was happy to reroute to Thattekad for more surprising shots. I learned to enjoy and finish my work within the given deadline. On my way to Thattekad, I saw so many possible places that I could have stopped by for birds but I ignored my temptation because I was sure that getting birds.

On Thattekad was simply not a probability for me. I was so sure that Thattekad will have the best experience to offer. I was happy that Thattekad didn’t disappoint me What I expected is what I got. Started with a close-up shot and made my way through the mountain to get some rare species. Action shots were my next motive from Thattekad. The birds that show off their flying shots was such a dream shot for me before I reached Thattekad. The dream came true and it changed the entire trip.

The bird photography trip was such a life-changing journey for me. I learned scheduling, organizing, and management. These words seem pretty economics for so many people. I was such a person too but how these things will save your photo tour is beyond imagination.

A simple diary made my entire trip money-worthy and time efficient. Nostalgia rushes into my mind every time I take my diary. To most people, photography is about freedom.
Freedom to travel everywhere, freedom to work without deadline. But the fact is photography is one of the professions where planning & meeting deadlines is as important as framing a photo. The only thing that makes the job different is you enjoy every bit of the struggle.
