Yellow bittern, is a little bittern. A small species, 36-38 cm, found in the northern Indian Subcontinent, Japan, Indonesia, and the Russian Far East. It has yellow irises, a black tail, an ivory bill, and yellow-green legs. Males have a brown crown, chestnut head and neck, buff underside, and dull yellow body.

Hidden Hunter Perched in leaves, the bittern waits patiently.
The female has dark red, brown, and buff underparts, with a rufous hindneck and streaks on her cap, neck, and breast. Juveniles, boldly striped on the head and back, resemble her. Yellow bitterns inhabit swamps and marshes, nesting in trees, bushes, or reed platforms near water. Four to six pale blue-green eggs are laid by them.
