What began in 2007 as Creative Hut Institute of Photography and Film has grown into Creative Hut Academy, bringing photography, cinematography and AI filmmaking under one roof at our residential campus in Mattakkara, Kottayam. The craft widened. The world evolved. Our roots remained the same.

What we hold to

Four things this college will not trade.

Teach the person, not the tool.

Every tool on this campus will be obsolete in five years. Judgement will not. We build the hand that decides what the instrument should do.
Know the Gurukul

Thirty students. On purpose.

A mentor cannot know a hundred faces. Thirty a year is not a limit we regret, it is the reason the model works.
Know the Gurukul

Make real films, not exercises.

Rising Embers did not go into a folder. It went to release. Every batch makes the next one.
Watch the film

The year ends with a job.

Placement support, and 520+ alumni working across studios and agencies. A certificate is not an outcome.

Who runs it

Two mentors. They live here too.

What this campus has made

The students did not study a feature film. They made one.

In July 2026, twenty of our students released Rising Embers, the world's first AI feature film made inside a film school. Directed by Abin Alex, with Anu Joseph as Associate Director. An eight track album in English and Malayalam went out on twenty three streaming platforms. Every student on that crew carries a screen credit for the rest of their career.

The place

Everything is inside the gate.

1,70,000 square feet in Mattakkara, Kottayam. A river on one side, hills on the other. Studios, a tech lab, a film studio, a recording studio, hostels for boys and girls, and the mentors' own home, all within a two minute walk of each other. That is not a campus tour detail. It is the reason a shoot can start at five in the morning and finish in the edit bay at midnight.
Common questions

About the college, answered.

Still unsure about anything? Talk to admissions, no obligation.

Was Creative Hut Academy called something else before?

Yes. It was Creative Hut Institute of Photography and Film. The name changed to Creative Hut Academy because photography, cinematography and AI filmmaking now sit under one roof. The founder, the campus and the course lineage are unchanged, and the college has run continuously since 2007.

Who founded Creative Hut Academy, and when?

Abin Alex founded Creative Hut in 2007, under Creative Hut Education Pvt. Ltd. He is still the Director, still teaches every batch, and still lives on campus.

Is Creative Hut Academy recognised?

Students can earn KGTE from the Department of Technical Education Kerala, NCVET-MESC skill certification under Skill India, and an Adobe qualified credential, alongside the Creative Hut Academy diploma.

Who awards the diploma?

Creative Hut Academy awards the PDAP and PDAC diplomas directly. The KGTE, NCVET and Adobe certifications are awarded by their respective bodies on examination.

Why does Creative Hut Academy take only thirty students a year?

Because the mentors live with the batch. Thirty is the number of students two resident mentors can genuinely know, correct and guide for a full year. Beyond that, a Gurukul stops being a Gurukul.

Where exactly is the Creative Hut Academy campus?

Karimpany P.O, Thekkummattathil, Mattakkara, Kottayam, Keralam, India – 686564. Kottayam railway station and the KSRTC bus stand are the nearest arrival points, and Cochin International Airport is roughly two and a half hours away.

<h1 class='my-heading'>Just some HTML</h1><?php echo 'The year is ' . date('Y'); ?>

Is the college really residential, including the teachers?

Yes. Abin Alex and Anu Joseph live on campus with their family. Learning happens at meals, on walks and in the edit bay, not only in class hours.

Can parents visit the campus before applying?

Yes, and we would rather you did. Campus visits can be arranged on any working day. Message us on WhatsApp and we will fix a time.

Admissions 2027
