The straight answer
What makes a good photography college in Kerala
A photography college is only as good as where its students end up. A real college teaches the camera, the craft around it, and the judgment to work professionally, then puts a portfolio and a network in your hands. Creative Hut Academy has done exactly that for eighteen years, from a residential campus in Kottayam, drawing students from across India.

Why this college
Eighteen years, not a trend
01
Established 2007
Kerala’s photography education filled with short courses after 2020. Creative Hut has taught through the entire shift from DSLR to mirrorless to AI.
02
Government certified
KGTE in Photography under DTE Kerala, MESC under NCVET, and Adobe Certified Professional. Real recognition, not an institutional certificate.
03
Fully residential
A Gurukul campus in Mattakkara where students live, shoot and edit together for a year. Craft learned by living it, not weekend classes.
04
A national student body
Every year students arrive from more than ten states, and over eighteen years from more than twenty states in all, taught in English, Hindi and Malayalam. A Kerala college with a national classroom.
05
520 plus alumni
Working as photographers, cinematographers, editors and colourists across Kerala, the Gulf and OTT. Eighteen years of graduates.
06
Made an AI feature film
Rising Embers, the world’s first AI feature film made inside a film school. 130 minutes, releasing 2 October 2026. No other Kerala college has done this.
07
Photography and AI together
Traditional camera craft taught first, then the AI stack inside real productions. The exact hybrid the industry is short of.
Alumni achievements
Our students' films win at real festivals
Not a placement statistic. Named students, named films, named festivals. This is what a year at a working photography college in Kerala produces.

What you can study
Two one-year diplomas, one residential college
Both are one year, fully residential, and both include the full AI toolkit. The difference is where the centre of gravity sits.
PDAP
Professional Diploma in the Art of Photography and Cinematography
The camera is the spine. Photography, lighting, cinematography and commercial craft, with AI generation, drone, gimbal and green screen built in. Specialise in fashion, advertising, travel, sports and automotive, or wildlife.
PDAC
Professional Diploma in AI Filmmaking and Digital Cinematography
AI filmmaking is the spine. A fourteen-stage pipeline where every batch makes a complete AI feature and every student earns a real credit on it.
Both are among the best photography courses in Kerala for one reason, they end in a portfolio and a credit, not just a certificate.
Thirty seats.
Fifteen states.

Where you will study
A residential campus in Kottayam
Creative Hut Academy sits in Mattakkara, Kottayam, in central Kerala. A residential Gurukul campus, not a city classroom. Students live on site for the year, which is how the craft actually embeds, shooting in the mornings, editing at night, learning from each other between.
Kottayam places you an hour from the backwaters, the hills and the coast, so location work is on your doorstep. Students come from across India, and classes run in English, Hindi and Malayalam, so no one is held back by language. The campus has the studios, gear and edit suites of a working production house, because that is what a photography college should be, a place you make work, not just attend.
Institute or college
Photography institute or photography college, which do you need?
In Kerala the words get used loosely. An institute usually means a shorter, skills-focused course. A college means a longer, fuller education with craft, judgment and certification. Both have a place. The honest comparison matters when you are choosing.
A short course, or institute
A one-year residential college
The camera basics in weeks
A certificate of completion
A fast, lower-cost entry
Enough to start, not to stand out
Craft, judgment and a point of view
A real portfolio and a credit
Government-recognised certification
A network of 520 plus working alumni
If you want the fastest possible start, a short course is honest value. If you want a career, a year changes what you are capable of. That is the difference between an institute and a college.
